We are a community of like minded people. Our activities are intentional performance art from craft cocktails at the bar to curated DJ music, art activities, soul power wash and of course our Friday Soul Brunch. It's not a free for all, but rather an intentional community with lots of wisdom and planning along with lessons learned. Past campers have paid it forward to provide this year's amazing camp. Our planning and structure provide a grounding and safe foundation amongst all the fun and chaos.
The origins of H&SV start with camp Soulicious in 2006. A camp pulled together of friendships far and wide. It all really got started at one of Debi Mae’s legendary Soul Brunches at her old home in the Valley. Eventually Debi brought the party to the Playa in 2006, and to this day it continues.
Over the years the camp evolved in different forms but it wasn’t until 2011 when we re-branded the camp to ’The Heroes & Super Villains of Soulicious’. On that year the camp took on a new philosophy, one of bringing our community together year round throughout the world rather than just getting together for our Soul Brunch.
Within each of us lies the duality of yin and yang, good and evil, male and female. These forces seem opposite on the surface, but in fact are vitally complementary in shaping who we are. For example, light cannot exist without shadow. The morning tranquility of the Playa would not be so peaceful without the carnal rage of the Burn at night. Our camp is a manifestation of that idea, particularly apropos for the Carnival of Mirrors; which side of you is staring back when you look into the mirror? Our camp aims to help the Burner on her or his journey to discover that. Our interactivity is aimed to help the wanderer’s transformation. And transformation is the appropriate word here. Every Hero & Super Villain has experienced a moment of transformation – a spider’s bite, an emotional journey – a moment that transformed them from ordinary to extraordinary. This year, we’ll be celebrating our transformations and the moments that have made their indelible marks on us.
Skullicious is a piece of artwork that functions as the camp's bar, built by David Jellison and gifted to our camp in 2012. It is a 22-foot long plexiglas-covered collage, titled PERCEPTION MANAGEMENT, that captures the period in the U.S. from 1960-2012 in hundreds of images of celebrities, politicians, personalities, and nut jobs - all of which is to highlight the relentless propaganda and idiocy that is thinly disguised as our government and entertainment, which we are subjected to every day.
For your personal items, bring a cooler. There will be ice available for purchase (one of two things you can buy out there). We will not have room for your personal perishable items in our camp kitchen, only communal food for Soul Brunch, Burgers & Beats and other family meals. Anything left in the kitchen will be considered "communal food" and it will be assumed you are okay with sharing it.
We will have a communal sink, two 2-burner camp stoves, a fire pit, pots and pans, silverware and random kitchen utensils/gadgets etc. So don't bring those... but, if there is something you need specifically, BRING IT. Your own plates/silverware is also a good idea. DEF your own cup/coffee mug/water bottle.
Real heroes do dishes. We do not have a camp maid. Unless you have a dom/sub slave you can share, please be prepared to wash your own dishes.
The shower works by manually pouring clean water in a bucket, electrically pumping the water out of the shower head, and collecting dirty water into a wood and tarp reservoir beneath the platform boards. Turn on the spout to wet yourself, turn it off while you soap yourself, and turn it back on to rinse yourself. Do not urinate in the shower, as the smell will linger in the days between grey water servicing.
Soul Brunch isn't just a party; it's like the backyard barbecues of home. It's like the cookouts of our yesteryears. As your families invited your communities over, as the generations of soul families invited their communities over, so too does the Heroes & Super Villains family invite the Playa community over to eat together, drink together, get to know one another, dance with each other and uplift each other. From noon until sunset, our trained chefs serve up the freshest breakfast burritos on the Playa, accompanied by professionally made craft cocktails. Our collection of international DJs spin smooth beats until nightfall.
We also give revelers a chance to clean up with our Soul Power Showers; guests experience the rebirth and rejuvenation of cool, cleansing water sprayed forcefully from our pressurized washer system (imagine a water saving car wash inside our shower areas for guests). Baptised anew, heroes set out on their way spreading positive vibes.
On it's 10th Annual Celebration of the Soul Brunch, we were gifted curated sounds from Marques Wyatt, Nickodemus, Deep Woods, Sabo and Rafael de la Cruz.
One Love.

Throughout the week, Heroes & Super Villains operates Skullicious during afternoon and evening hours. We are a slow bar, designed to help the weary Burner take a load off, tell us some stories and make some new friends while we diligently craft signature cocktails. Ask for Wasabi. Tell him you've heard of his legendary Mojito. Pray he can make you one.
